On the strength of a decisive win over fairleigh Dickinson and PItt's loss to Tennessee, the UCONN Huskies were ranked fourth in both major polls on Monday. As you may know both the polls and NCAA Committee places a lot of weight in the RPi ratings. This is a ranking system which includes both a teams record and their strength of schedule. The fact the the Huskies are 6th in the RPI ratings and moved ahead of Syracuse probably explains why they also moved a head of the Orange in the polls.
The air is getting rare up there at #4 so we will see if the Huskies are this good when Big East starts on Dec.27 at Pitt after two tune ups against Coppin State and Harvard.

ps- I was wondering if the Walker brothers still follow college ball or they have joined a local polo club and have lost interest in

So much for sneaking up on anyone. This just seems like way too much, way too soon. This team was picked #11 in the Big East, now they are #4 in the country? Can we get a couple conference wins under our belt, before we are in the top 5? I know this is what the great Jimmy C is telling the kids. This team will face adversity, let's see where we are on January 9th... after Pittsburgh (Road 12/27), USF (Home 12/31 - classic trap game), Notre Dame (Road 1/4) and Texas (Road 1/8 - they will remember what happened last January at Gampel), I would be shocked if we don't lose a game or 2 in that stretch, and if/when that happens, how these kids respond will tell us a lot about what will happen in March. Also, until we win a game against a Big East opponent on a night when Kemba is human (maybe 14 pts, 5 assts) it is too soon for any coronations. All of this being said, rest assured, Jimmy C knows all of this and will have them ready.
Go Huskies.
Dave, a great comment from a knowledgeable Husky fan. I could not agree more. Whatever happens over the coming stretch what excites me this year is seeing Jim Calhoun feeling better and obviously engaged with this team and the good team chemistry and effort. I also give credit to Calhoun for having very high quality assts: IN my opinion you cannot do better than
george Blaney. Also, I cannot remember, at the moment the new asst. brought in, I think, from Penn. He is obviously influencing their half court offense which looks the best it ever has- much better ball movement and movement off the ball.
#4 is a heavy weight to carry this early in the season. I feel like Calhoun is still trying to figure out who his starting five is going to be. I love the horses and think they can gel, my big question still is how the Huskies will do against a bigger / taller team. And I'm skeptical of that 2nd German dude. I think it is too hard to come in this late in the game.
well said all good points, except I do think that he is close to sorting out the starting five.
